We already know Microsoft's love for other systems operating for mobile devices that are not yours. From here we usually talk about it around updates and new apps for Android and iOS.
In September of last year, Microsoft updated Skype on both iOS and Android with an improved design that had more to do with the prevailing design languages of those two OS. Yesterday, Skype 7.0 arrived on Android with an improved interface for tablets.
Now in landscape mode, the Skype app for Android looks a lot like Skype for iPad itself, which is not really a big surprise in itself. This new multi-pane view allows for better multitasking, as the Skype team explains: «just turn your device and you will be able to send messages, files and check the latest conversations while you are on a video or voice call«.
Apart from this improved UI for Skype for Android, two more novelties have been included. One is the universal search that allows you to quickly search for Skype contacts, chats, groups and bots, while the second is responsible for automatically adding the user's contact cards to your list. The team refers to this last characteristic in this way: «If they aren't using Skype yet, it's now easier than ever to invite them.»
The update should be knocking on the door of your device through the Google Play Store so that you have these three interesting features. A new version that opens up new expectations and experiences for users who use their Android tablet on a daily basis and who, from now on, will be able to get the same experience as a user on their iPad. As you might say, it was about time.
