How to control Windows Media Player with keyboard shortcuts

If we often use our computer to work or consume content, it is likely that in the background we like to listen to our favorite music. Natively Microsoft offers us the Windows Media Player, a player that in my opinion is one of the worst that has been launched on the music player market. Its rough interface, how poorly optimized it is and how complex it works it does not make you worthy of being a recommended player. However, over time, many users have become accustomed to using it. For those who can no longer live without it, in this article we show you a simple application that allows us to control playback using keyboard shortcuts.

We are talking about the plugin WMPKeys, a plugin that will be installed in Windows Media Player and that It will allow us to configure different keys to control the reproduction of the content that is being listened to. As soon as you download it, and for this plugin to be installed correctly, we must have the Windows Media Player closed. The installer is an application in .msi format, a file that we will have to click twice to install the plugin in Windows Media Player.

The key combinations that they offer us with the following:

  • Play Pause Ctrl + Alt + Home
  • Next Ctrl + Alt + right arrow
  • Previous Ctrl + Alt + left arrow
  • Volume up Ctrl + Alt + up arrow
  • Volume down Ctrl + Alt + down arrow
  • Forward playback Ctrl + Alt + F
  • Delay playback Ctrl + Alt + B

As we can see, all the key combinations begin with the Ctrl + Alt key combination, a key combination that we are hardly going to find in any other application or within the operating system. This plugin only works with the Windows player called Windows Media PlayerAlthough the developer is working to adapt it to the revamped versions of the Windows 10 player.

Excellent Plugin and post, it only remained to mention that to activate it once installed, you must open Windows Media -> Tools -> Add-ons, and enable the Wmpkeys and voila!

    5 stars if I can.
