How to change default programs in Windows 10

Windows 10

Usually any Windows uses the program that is related to the file type. But it also usually uses in case of absence, its own programs. Thus, for example, in the case of html files, Windows 10 uses Microsoft Edge and not Google Chrome or Firefox. The same goes for pdf documents or doc documents.

This, which can be a nuisance for many, is something that we can change in a simple and fast way. So, we can choose which program we want to open with a certain file or function.

One the fastest ways to do this is to click with the right button on the file that we want to open and go to the option «Open with ...» this will open a window with all the applications that we have in our Windows.

Microsoft programs are among the default programs in Windows 10

We select the application that can open it and before pressing the open button, at the bottom there is a phrase with a tab that we will mark so that these types of files always open with the selected program. This is something simple but tedious since we have to go file by file to associate the application with the file format.

The second way To change the default program in Windows 10, go to the "Default Programs" menu that we can find through the Search option in the Start Menu and in the window that appears, select the program to use in the proposed situations.

So we can choose which program to use to open photos, open music, open movies or simply which will be our default browser. Once we have modified the programs, the operating system will use the indicated program to open those files, but it is not definitive because we can return to the same screen and change the application. Finally remember that in order to make this change, we must have the application installed. If we want to change the web browser, but we have not installed any, Windows 10 will only show us Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer as alternatives. The same happens with other programs such as the word processor, the music player, etc ...
