In recent years, we have seen privacy become a priority for most of us. The continuous scandals, not only of Facebook and Google, but also the control that governments do over their citizens has put many of you on alert.
Both Facebook, but especially Google, want know our location at all times, to target their ads mainly, although if we see it from the outside it seems that they want to have a complete record of where we are moving or where we are going. But it also uses it, for example, to inform us in advance about the time it may take to go to a destination.
By default, Windows 10 activates the location of our computer, a location that is mainly used to provide us with weather information, although it is not its only purpose. Microsoft, use the Windows 10 location, Like Google, to target advertising through its ad platform available with Bing.
As in all operating systems, both mobile and desktop, it is possible to deactivate the location so that at all times neither Microsoft nor any other application or service can have knowledge of where we are in order to target your advertising campaignsEspecially Google since ads are their main source of income.
But before deactivating it, we must bear in mind that if we do so, the search results based on our location will no longer be available, so if we search, for example a hairdresser, Google or Bing, they will show us the main results even if they are not near our place of residence.
- If we want to disable the location, we must access the Windows configuration menu through the keyboard shortcut Windows key + i.
- Next, click on Privacy and then in Location.
- To deactivate the location, we must turn off the switch next to Location Service. From that moment, our copy of Windows 10 will stop using the location for everything that I have mentioned above.
