How to open .srt files without installing applications

open srt files

When it comes to learning new languages or improving the level, many are the people who turn to the subtitles of their favorite movies or series, in addition to being ideal for people with hearing disabilities. The .srt files are the files that accompany videos where the dialogs are located and that they are synchronized with the video playback.

In this way, we can see a movie in English with Spanish subtitles, a movie in English with English subtitles ... Surely on some occasion you have been curious to be able to open an .srt file to calmly read the dialogues and, if necessary, make modifications, find the meaning of words ...

The name of the file in .srt format is the same as that of the video to which it corresponds, only the extension changes. In this way, any application that we use to play the video knows that this file corresponds to the movie without our having to do absolutely anything on our part.

The problem is that if we click on the .srt file, despite being a plain text file (without format), the player will automatically open. In order to open files in .srt format, independently and if the video player is running, we must perform the steps that I detail below:

open srt files

  • The first thing we must do is click on the Right mouse button above the file we want to open.
  • Next, we go to the option To open with, click More applications in the drop-down menu and select Notepad.

It is done. As simple as that. You must bear in mind that if you make any changes to the text that is displayed in the file, this will occur in the video, a situation that can become funny without knowing how to do it well.
