NYPD uses Windows Phone

Despite the little success that Windows Phone is having among all users, the market share has fallen by 1% in the last year from the 2,5% it had just a year ago, there have been many rumors that affirmed that Redmond-based company may have in mind ditching mobile platform due to the projected layoff of nearly 1900 people this year.

But Microsoft has come to the fore quickly to disprove those rumors, stating that despite its low market share will continue betting on the mobile platform and as proof of this is the agreement that has been reached with the New York police so that this department so that the officers make use of Windows Phone.

As published by the New York Police Department, the department has purchased 36.000 devices equipped with Windows Phone that will help internal management in addition to reducing the department's response time.

Thanks to the introduction of mobile phones among city police officers, we have been able to reduce response time from five minutes to four minutes and 26 seconds in just one year. For this we make use of a new application designed for the police that manages all 911 calls, so that they get to the crime scene in less and less time. This application always takes into account the location of the police to send the closest patrol in response to emergency calls.

The application has managed to completely change the way we direct police resources before emergency calls. Now officers get all the information about calls on mobile devices without having to wait for instructions from the police station.
