How to use different desktops

One of the most interesting novelties of Windows 10 is the inclusion of virtual desktops that allow us to change to a personalized one for work and another for leisure, to put two examples of this great functionality that you all have in that new edition of Windows.

Actually when you don't have two physical screens, using this feature it becomes almost vital when one has to deal with different spaces of use. The only thing that is still a bit limited and you cannot drag programs between different screens or change the wallpaper for those different desktops. We are going to know the ins and outs of this feature.

First things first: add a desktop

  • Let's add a new desktop first. Click on the icon next to Windows search on the right, or use this shortcut of keys: Windows + Tab
  • In this open task pane, at the bottom right click on «New desktop»

  • You can have several open and it can be done without entering the task view with this key combination: Windows + Ctrl + D

How to switch between desktops

  • The manual way is to open the task view with Windows + Tab and click on some of the virtual desktops

  • You can also switch between them with this key combination: Windows + Control + Left Arrow or Windows + Control + Right Arrow
  • You can add a unlimited number virtual desktops and the bottom will show nine of them

How to move windows between desktops

  • We are going to open the task panel with Windows + Tab. From here we leave the mouse on the desktop that has the window that we want to move
  • All the open windows appear and now select the one you want to move
  • Right click on that window, select "Move to" and choose the virtual desktop that you want to move the window

  • It can also be done by grabbing and dragging a window on the desktop to move it very quickly

Close a virtual desktop

  • Open the virtual desktop, then the task panel and on the desktop you want to close an "X" appears

  • Press it and you will close that desk
  • With the combination Windows + Ctrl + F4 you will close the virtual desktop you are on
