Backups are something of great importance on our Windows 10 computer. It can always happen something like there is a failure in the hard disk or that some virus ravages the computer. Therefore, having a backup copy of our files is a good way to protect them and thus not lose anything in case the worst happens. Its importance is therefore high. We will talk more about them below.
As we find various types of backups in Windows 10. So it is important to know them and know what they are for in addition to how to make a backup copy on the computer. So in case you need to make one, we will know how it is possible.
Types of backups
We find various types of backups in Windows 10. Knowing these types is important, because on some occasion we may have to use one of them, or simply to be able to determine which is the one that best suits what we are looking for. In total there are four types of backups. We talk about each of them in a summarized way:
- Full backup: The classic type of backup that we all know. It is responsible for copying all the data to an external storage unit. It is a good way if we want to have all the files copied and protected, in addition to allowing them to recover all in a very simple way. Although the process is therefore slower, since the volume of files to be copied is greater.
- Mirror backup: It resembles the previous type of backup, although in this case what it does is clone the files they are compressed. What makes them take up more space in the unit in which we are going to store them. Although it makes the restoration much faster or more comfortable.
- Incremental backup: What this type of backup does is copy the files that have changed since the last time you made a backup in Windows 10. So it is much faster in this sense, since only those new files are copied . It takes much less time and takes up less space at all times. This is the one we should use when we have previously made backup copies.
- Differential backup: This last type in the list looks like the previous one. But in this case, just back up the data that has changed since you last made a full backup. So even if you have made a differential copy on occasion, it will not take this into account. Missing data will be copied in reference to the last full copy. The process is therefore less slow when copying all the files.
Where to save backups
When we have made the decision to make a backup copy on our Windows 10 computer, the next thing we have to think about is where we want to save this copy. Nowadays this is something much simpler, since we have the most comfortable options such as SD, microSD or USB drivessuch as external hard drives.
They are safe methods that allow us to store large amounts of files. Besides this, we can also make use of other systems such as the cloud. Since in this way, we will have access to this information at all times regardless of where we are. Although it must be taken into account that in some cloud platforms there are limits in terms of capacity.

In the column on the left we have an option called backup. We click on it, and we have the possibility to add a storage unit, in which said copy will be saved. Once we have added this unit, we will be able to make the backup without any problem on the computer.
