Windows 7 today is still the most used operating system in the world, with a market share that is close to 50%, a share that has been decreasing since the launch of Windows 10. Windows 7 that will receive support until 2020, has just received a big Service Pack 2 style update, but it is not really a Service Pack where new functions and features are added to the operating system but Microsoft has focused on improving the stability and operation of the system, which still has a few years of life with support from Microsoft.
This new update, which translated would be something like a convenience continuation pack, is the first patch since the release of Service Pack 1, released in February in February 2011, so it issolves hundreds of security and stability problems. This kind of Service Pack 2 is an optional add-on if you haven't updated your computer in a long time, since otherwise you will be protected before all the threats that have been coming out progressively since 2011.
This update not available through Windows updatesBut we will have to download and install it manuallyHowever, you will first need to install the April 2015 update. Going forward, Microsoft will offer monthly roll-ups for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1 through Windows Update. In other words, a single monthly patch will cover all non-security fixes while security releases will be rolled out quickly when needed.
Originally Windows 7 was released in 2009, two years later it received Service Pack 1. Microsoft has not released any Service Packs to date. Since then, Microsoft has only been releasing small updates to solve specific operating problems, but not in this way.
