Microsoft's mobile division does not go through good times and although many think that the Surface Phone is the salvation of the mobile division, many companies are already rectifying their thinking and believe that it will not be enough to save this economic arm of Microsoft.
One such company is IDC, a company that observes and analyzes the mobile market. According to IDC, it will be in 2021 when Windows disappears from the mobile market. This is due to the reduced presence in the market that it is having.
More and more users are leaving the platform and more and more developers. That is why IDC estimates that during this year there will only be 1,8 million terminals with Windows 10 Mobile in the world and that little by little it will be reduced until in 2021 it disappears. Meanwhile, its alternatives will grow, being the undisputed leader of the Android market, followed by Apple's iOS.
The Surface Phone will not be enough for the IDC company
IDC points out that the dissemination of Windows 10 Mobile OEM in other manufacturers could change the situation, but Microsoft's trend is against this and it does not seem that in four years this will change. And finally it is the Surface Phone that could change the situation or lengthen the agony that the platform is experiencing. IDC is quite skeptical with this model since its launch is not yet known, nor even its actual specifications, something that indicates that it will be in 2018 or 2019 when we have this device on the market, which would be late for the platform.
Personally I think IDC, even with data in hand, gets confused. Surface Phone will be a phone that will attract a lot of attention and that it will make the classic Windows applications as well as many video games, able to be installed on the mobile, something that other mobile platforms do not have and that may well change the situation.
