How to change the icon of folders or files in Windows 10

Many are the users who like to customize their operating system to the maximum. Android offers us a large number of options, something that unfortunately we cannot find in iOS, as in macOS. However, Windows offers us a series of options when it comes to customize our almost infinite copy of Windows.

Windows has always been characterized by offering us a series of native themes with which to customize not only the wallpaper, but also the confirmation or notification sounds. We can also find third-party themes for Windows, but if we want to customize the icon of the folders or files, we must do it manually.

Practically since Windows 3.11, Microsoft has made available to us the possibility of change the icon that represents a folder or file, a process that we can carry out very easily and that will allow us to quickly identify which applications or folders we are looking for at a glance.

In order to change the icon of the files or folders that we want, first of all we must go to the file properties, placing us on it and clicking on the right button of the mouse. Next we select File Properties.

The menu that will appear offers us different options that we can adjust both to expand the compatibility of the application, control the environment in which it runs as well as also allow us to modify its icon through the Customize tab.

Once inside the Customize tab, we go to Ibinder cones and we select the image that we want to represent the folder icon. In this section, we can only select files with the .ico format, so prevailingly we must convert our image to .bmp format and later rename it to .ico format, since otherwise, it will not allow us to add that image as the icon of the a folder, file, or shortcut.

    Hello,
In Windows 10, within the PROPERTIES it is possible to access the CUSTOMIZE tab ONLY AND EXCLUSIVELY in the folders.

For files there is NOT this tab. So there is NO way to change a simple file icon in Windows 10.

So I would change the title of this section to "HOW TO CHANGE THE FOLDER ICON IN WINDOWS 10" so no one is fooled.
    Thank you
