How to change the network profile of our Internet connection from Public to Private or vice versa

Every time we connect to a Wifi network or connect a network cable to our computer, whether desktop or laptop, Windows 10 will ask us a question about the type of connection to which we have connected, offering us two possible answers: Public or Private, which are the two types of network to which we can connect.

Windows asks us that question so that users with little knowledge about network connections, know how to properly configure the behavior of your computer every time they connect to them, since it is not the same to connect to a public network than to the private network of our home.

If we select the Public option as the Network profile, our computer automatically will hide within the network, so that no other computer can find us there and access our computer, as long as we have enabled the sharing of our resources with other computers or devices.

If, on the contrary, we select the Private Network profile, Windows will understand that we have connected to a network from our home or work, so our team will always be available so that it is recognized by other computers or devices and thus be able to share resources, documents ...

If when we have connected to a Wifi network or through a network cable, we made a mistake when selecting the type of network, within the configuration options we can change the network profile that we have erroneously established. To do this we proceed as follows:

  • We enter into the configuration settings of Windows 10.
  • Within the menu Configuring Windows, click on Network and Internet.
  • Then click on the option STATUS located in the left column of the screen.
  • Now we go to the right part of the screen and click on Change connection properties.
  • At this point, we can change the type of network profile that we have mistakenly selected and that we want to modify.
