How to disable Microsoft Edge tab preview in Windows 10

Previous tabs

At Vivaldi, a new explorer from the guys at Opera, we have the eyelash preview that allow us to take a quick look at the ones we have open by leaving the mouse pointer over them. In this way, we can quickly know what happens in those that we have open so that we do not even have to go to them.

In Microsoft Edge we also have this preview, although for many it may happen that it is not a very useful feature, so we are going to go through this little guide to deactivate it through a small tweak in the Windows registry. Of course, remember that these changes in Regedit must be done with great care.

Edge is a new web browser that has plenty of room for get closer to the competition. Plugins and addons are one of its weak points, but it is true that it has been improving with new updates throughout the year to become a better browser.

So let's try to remove that ability to see in a small window the preview of the tab that appears when the mouse pointer is left on any of the ones that we have open.

How to disable tab preview in Edge

As I said before, be very careful in the changes in regedit, so please follow all the steps well.

  • We close Microsoft Edge
  • We use the key combination Windows + R to open the run command
  • We wrote Regedit and press enter to open the Windows registry
  • You have to go here:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AppContainer\Storage\microsoft.microsoftedge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\MicrosoftEdge\TabbedBrowsing

Regedit

  • Click on the large window on the right, select "New" and then in «DWORD value (32bits)
  • We name the key as TabPeekEnabled
  • Click on Accept
  • We do double click on the new key generated and we make sure it is set to 0
  • We give on Accept
  • We close the registry editor

Now you should no longer see the preview in the tabs. If you want to have it again, you have to change the value 0 in the key created by 1.
