How to have Dropbox in our Windows

dropbox

Although Windows 10 has full compatibility with OneDrive, Microsoft's cloud hard drive, there are also other equally interesting alternatives that are fully compatible with Windows 10. In this small guide we will talk about Dropbox, perhaps the most famous and veteran cloud hard drive in its category, but few know how to use it for real.

Dropbox is a cloud hard drive that offers you a desktop application and a web application. The last one is quite well known and surely we have all consulted it at some time. However, the desktop application is very different because it turns a folder on our computer into a virtual hard drive that we can use and synchronize as if it were another folder on our computer.

This last point is important because if we delete a file from our folder or simply cut the file and paste it out of the Dropbox folder, the file will be removed from our cloud space and no one else will be able to access it. With that said, let's begin installing the Dropbox app.

Dropbox installation

First we have to go to Dropbox official website and download the installation package (this package does an online installation, so we will need to be connected to the Internet). Once we have downloaded the installation package, we click on the package and the installation will begin.

Once the application has finished installing, in our system startup as well as an icon of the Dropbox application will appear in our bar and a window like this will open:

Dropbox installation

This window allows us to either start a session with our Dropbox account or sign up and get a Dropbox account. Both possibilities can be done from this window. As we are supposed to already have an account, we start the session and the application itself will take care of the rest: create a folder called "Dropbox" on our hard drive; synchronize it with our account and always start with this dropbox account so that we will always have these documents accessible.

As you can see, having Dropbox on our Windows 10 is easy and this does not mean that we cannot use other services such as Google Drive, OneDrive or iCloud, which one do you prefer?
