How to shut down your Windows 10 computer with a shortcut

Turn off computer

Keyboard shortcuts have become, once you get used to them, in a tool you can't live with. I say this from my own experience as I had always been reluctant to use them, until the moment when releasing the mouse to perform a function left me a great deal of time throughout the day.

Most applications natively have a large number of keyboard shortcuts, with which we can perform actions directly without having to enter the menus without interacting with the mouse. The Windows desktop also has keyboard shortcuts, but not to turn off the computer directly, a process that forces us to perform three movements on the menus. Thanks to a direct access we can do it in one go.

The shortcuts, located on the desktop or on the taskbar, allow us to open applications or execute actions quickly with the click of the mouse, without having to access the Windows menus. In this article I am going to show you how we can create a shortcut to turn off our computer directly, without having to click on the start menu and click on Shut down.

Shut down Windows with a shortcut

  • First of all, we must place ourselves on the desktop, click on the right button and select Create shortcut.
  • Next we must write "shutdown -s -t 0" without the quotation marks in the text box that is named. Type the location of the element and click on Next.
  • In the next step, we will be asked to enter the name of the shortcut. In this case we will call it Shut Down.

The shortcut icon may not be to your liking. Fortunately, through the properties of the shortcut, we can access the Shortcut tab and click on Change icon.
