In the past Mobile World Congress Microsoft officially presented the Lumia 640 and 640 XL that had and are very well received in the mobile telephony market. Today both terminals have gone to the background before the appearance of the new Lumia 950 and 950 XL, with Windows 10 installed natively inside. Of course, Windows 10 Mobile is already coming to this terminal in some areas of the world so in the coming days it is possible that it will recover the lost role of protagonist. This has not mattered so that in recent days we have tested the Lumia 640 and we have squeezed it to unsuspected limits, to show you our analysis and impressions in this article.
Before we start to analyze this terminal according to various aspects, we have to say that the general impression that this Lumia 640 has left us is very good. Its design, available in bright colors and colors and also its adjusted price are other reasons that have ended up convincing us and I could almost say that we even fell in love.

Design; plastic is still very present
This Lumia 640 maintains the design of other terminals launched on the market by Microsoft and plastic, which many users like so little, is still very present. On this occasion, however, the general construction of the terminal is very good and despite the materials used it gives an impression and offers us a more than good touch in the hand.
In our case, the color of the mobile device was the characteristic orange that colors the back cover of the terminal. Although at first it seems like a device without the possibility of removing the battery, this is not the case and the case can be easily removed.
The dimensions of the terminal are 141.3 x 72.2 x 8.85 millimeters with a screen that we will analyze in detail below and that goes up to 5 inches. The corners of the Lumia are rounded giving it an unbeatable appearance. Its weight is 144 grams which makes it a light device that is held comfortably and easily in the hand.
Despite what it may seem due to the garish color of the casing, it goes completely unnoticed, and anyone who catches your attention is to ask us about the terminal.
Screen
The screen of this Lumia 640 is a 5-inch IPS panel that offers a resolution of 1080 x 720 pixels, with a pixel density of 294. There is no doubt that we are not facing a screen of enormous quality, but we are facing a terminal of the so-called mid-range, so evaluating the price and the screen in general, you cannot ask for much more.
Among the positive aspects we find the Gorilla Glass 3 protection that will give us some security before a fall of the terminal. The experience with this screen, without being outstanding, is more than good and is that the viewing angles are good and the colors are quite real far from what we can see on other screens, even higher quality.
Hardware; power with control
Inside this Lumia 640 we find a processor Snapdragon 400 with a 7 GHz Cortex A1,2 quad-core CPU and an Adreno 305 GPU. Supported by a 1 GB RAM memory we have not encountered absolutely any problems during the days that we have tested and squeezed it.
The good performance of the terminal helps greatly the operating system installed natively, which is Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2. Surely, as you already know, this terminal will be one of those that is updated to 10 Windows Mobile, even in some countries around the world you are already receiving the update officially. At the moment we have not been able to test this new Windows on this specific device, although we have no doubt that Windows 10 Mobile will be a resounding success for several reasons, but we hope that it will not affect the overall performance of this Lumia 640.
Cameras
Before starting with the analysis of the cameras of this Lumia 640, we must bear in mind at all times that we are facing a mid-range mobile device.
The rear camera of this terminal has a 8 megapixel sensor with autofocus, 4 x digital zoom, a 1/4-inch sensor, an aperture of f / 2.2, LED flash, dynamic flash, and rich capture. The results obtained as can be seen in the images that we show you below are quite good, although of course without reaching that of other Lumia that belong to the so-called high-end market.
As can be seen in the images and as usually happens in most smartphones on the market, in broad daylight we get photos of a rather interesting quality, but as soon as the light disappears the results are more modest. In a dark place and without too much light, the results are somewhat poor as we can see in the images that we have shown you.
The front camera offers us a 0.9 mpx HD wide angle, f / 2.4 and HD resolution (1280 x 720p).
Drums; the real beast of the Lumia 640
One of the strengths of the Lumia 640 is undoubtedly its battery and it is The 2.500 mAh offer us a very important autonomy and that far exceeds other mobile devices on the market. This aspect is also greatly influenced by the great optimization of Windows Phone, which we hope will continue to be just as good with Windows 10 Mobile, which is already happening officially in some countries.
During these days that I have tested this Lumia 640 it has offered me a full day autonomy with intense use. Most days I have managed to reach the end of the day with a battery of around 25%. Along with this Lumia had an Android terminal, for personal use, and that has not managed to keep up with the Microsoft terminal. Most days the Android smartphone could not get “alive” to the day, highlighting the excellent battery of this Lumia 640.
Conclusions
After testing this Lumia 640 for several weeks, I have had a very good taste in my mouth, although as always happens when testing a mobile device, I think it could improve in different aspects. Of course, if we had to place this smartphone in a classification of the so-called mid-range, it would be in a very high position.
With a stylish design and boasting as always very bright colors, it also offers us features and specifications that will convince any user. The autonomy that it offers us and especially its price may be two of the things that have just crowned this Lumia as one of the best mid-range terminals that we can buy today.
Positive aspects
Among the most positive aspects of this terminal we must first highlight the enormous autonomy that it offers us that with normal use will allow us to endure perfectly for two days without having to charge it. Its low price, its ideal size and its colorful exterior are other advantages.
Of course we cannot forget that it was the first terminal to receive the new Windows 10 Mobile, which is undoubtedly a positive aspect and that is that we will be able to acquire this terminal, for a reduced price, and test the new Microsoft on it.
Negative aspects
Among the negative aspects we must include once again the design of this Lumia terminal and we are starting to get a little tired of plastic, which makes a good impression to the touch, but is still plastic. Many companies are launching mid-range or low-end mobile devices, with ridiculous prices and a metallic finish that attracts a lot of attention. Microsoft should put the batteries in this sense as soon as possible, although with the latest launches that are already available in the market it seems that it has undoubtedly done so.
The cameras could be another negative aspect, but we cannot ask too many things from a mid-range terminal, which does what is good, nice and cheap in almost every way.
Price and Availability
This Lumia 640 has been available on the market for some time and its replacement, the Lumia 650, could soon be officially presented, although it remains to be seen whether it will be a real replacement or rather a travel companion in the difficult market of mobile devices.
The price of this Lumia 640 can vary very much depending on where we are going to buy it, but for example on Amazon today We can find it for 158 euros in its LTE version. The XL version does not get too much of a reduced price and that is that we can buy it for 190 euros. Of course both models are available in various colors.
