At the last Microsoft Build 2017 held in May, Microsoft surprised locals and strangers by announcing that one of the most popular Linux distributions on the market, such as Ubuntu, will hit the Windows Store. In addition, along with it, Fedora and openSUSE, other distributions best valued by users and most used worldwide, would also be available for download.

Those of Redmond did not confirm an official date for the arrival of the distributions to the official app store, but today we woke up with the news that openSUSE is now available for download from the official Windows app store.

Specifically if we access the Windows Store we find openSUSE Leap 42 and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12, although at the moment you can only install them on your computer if you are a member of the Insider program and if you have at least Build 16190 of Windows 10 installed on your computer.

If you are not an Insider, the two distributions appear in the store along with a message inviting you to join the Microsoft program, as you can see in the following image. In order to download them, it will be enough for you to join the program and start using openSUSE now and Ubuntu and Fedora as soon as they are available. Unlike what happened until now We will no longer have to activate the developer mode to install Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL).

Another of the most interesting news is that now we can use a complete environment, and not just the Bash console, which is undoubtedly a great advantage since we can switch between Linux and Windows in the most comfortable way possible. .

Ready to try openSUSE on your Windows 10 computer?.
