February 4, 2016 Microsoft published a patent in the United States Patent Office to record "Rich Notifications" related to notifications.
In the 27 page post, Microsoft stated that the method and manner of displaying notifications currently on the lock screen, has lost strength and is not up to par than the innovations that have made mobile phones easy to use on a daily basis.
Microsoft's words are these: «Devices that we usually use on a daily basis, such as desktops and phones, provide content-based notifications to users. These notifications usually come in the form of an icon that is usually associated with a number. For example, email notifications arrive as an icon with a number representing the number of new emails that have been received. At the same time, the weather notifications are also received with a related icon such as a cloud.«.
Microsoft, what you want to achieve is that the user You have to perform a series of actions to access to a particular notification that is tied to an app. Which implies that part of that more agile user experience has been lost and what they want to remedy with those "Rich Notifications" or "enriched notifications".
These provide a list of possibilities in how notifications could be displayed, the gestures to open the details of each application and even certain deeper interactions such as the ability to respond to messages or texts.
The patent even offers a series of concepts and diagrams for anyone who wants to go into more technical details. The link to the patent from right here.
Notifications continue to receive improvements on the different platforms, although it is true that, on the lock screen, as in Android, they already go unnoticed and no new ideas are arrived at. These they are usually added by third-party developers taking advantage of these gaps in app development.
